Have you ever heard of the name, David Goggins? He is a Navy SEAL, a former Guinness World Record holder for completing 4030 pull-ups in 17 hours, one of the world’s top endurance athletes competing in 60+ ultra-marathons/triathlons/ultra-triathlons and New York Times best-selling author.

But before all that, Goggins was a pest control fumigator, making about $1,000 a month and weighing nearly 300 pounds. He was discharged from the Air Force at 23 years of age and didn’t really have much to look forward to. One day, he saw a program on TV for Navy SEALS which talked about their training regiment. He decided then and there, he wanted to become a SEAL.

After finally getting a recruiter to entertain him about becoming a Navy SEAL, he learned at 6’1 he couldn’t weight more than 191 pounds. This meant, he had to shed 106 pounds as soon as possible. Goggins began an intense training regiment with a strict diet, and in 3 months he made his weight class.

He made his way in and attended SEAL training but got only as far as Hell Week twice. The first time, he got pneumonia and had to drop out. The second time he endured multiple stress fractures which forced him out. On the third Hell Week, in a year, he passed.

In 2001, he was assigned to Seal Team FIVE and served in Iraq. In 2004, he graduated from Army Ranger School and earned the distinction of Top Honor Man. After retiring from military life he continued his fitness achievements by entering marathons, and ultra-marathons.
