CTOMS is a Canadian company that was founded by Canadian military veterans, most with special forces experience, who formed the company to originally be a training company. They still are a training company but they have also worked on developing gear based on field experience.

“…CTOMS™ started as a training company, and first and foremost, CTOMS™ remains a training company. We believe that it is essential to first become effectively trained to rely on yourself and not your equipment. We believe it is essential to first become educated in order to make effective equipment choices that will enhance your knowledge and skill, not compensate for a lack thereof. And we believe that when you do choose your equipment, it needs to be best of breed and meet rigorous quality standards.”

So you can imagine the work that has gone into developing their tactical belt, the CTOMS Quick Release 1.5” Tactical Belt. The Quick Release Tactical belt was originally developed for government and military use but they are making their way to civilians now. It is a different take on rigger style belt as it has increased rigidity for bearing equipment and can also be an extraction belt if required. The old style webbing friction buckle is released with a climbing rated quick release Cobra buckle which allows for faster donning and doffing of the belt. These buckles also tend to last much longer than the old webbing friction buckles.

The QR G2 Tactical belt portion is a single piece of 1.5” webbing folded overlapping two thirds of the belt. The inside of the belt has polymer sown into it for additional strength. There is also a section of the belt between the two rigid sides which allows for an extraction carabineer to be clipped on if the person wearing the belt needs rescue.

To put the belt on you simply remove the male side of the Cobra buckle and feed the trailing end through your belt loops. Make sure the 1.5” elastic keeper is put on last and then rethread the male portion of the Cobra and snap the Cobra buckle together. Finally, pull the trailing end to tighten and tuck any excess webbing into the keeper. It’s incredibly quick and easy!

I have been using my CTOMS QR G2 1.5” Belt now for a while and have been very happy. It’s an incredibly comfortable belt even with all my gear on it including my service pistol, holster, 2 additional magazines, baton, taser, handcuffs, etc. In total, I have about 10-12 pounds of weight on this thing while on duty and have no noticed any tearing, folding, or binding. The belt has remained as comfortable as it was on day one! I have never field tested the extraction feature but in training it has worked.

I have no issue recommending this belt for anyone looking for field use. If you are more of a hobbyist, the price tag of $200 might deter you and I don’t blame you. There are certainly cheaper belts, but if your life literally depends on it, than go for the CTOMS QR G2 Tactical belt. 9.5/10.
