Titan Corporation was a US based private military company operating out of San Diego, California. It was founded in 1981 with the goal of providing information and communications products, solutions and services for intelligence agencies and the Department of Homeland Security. Titan Corporation saw a steady growth in operations through a variety of contracts to the Federal Government with a large portion of these being awarded from the Department of Defence and Homeland Security.
In 1998, Titan purchased two companies, Visicom Inc and Delfin Systems Inc for about $47.5 million allowing it to expand it’s tech operations. This would shift the focus of the company to push more tech and linguistic operations which actually allowed it to grow and gain an advantage over other PMCs.
In 2003, Titan was hired by the US military to provide translation services, for a cool $112.1 million in a contract. By then the company had 12,000 employees worldwide and revenues pushing into the $2 billion dollar territory. But Titan also pushed into the tech sector by gaining contracts to develop spy planes and design war games for the US Navy.
Generally, things were looking quite good for Titan until they ran into some controversies. In 2004, some of their personnel were implicated in the prisoner abuse scandal at Abu Ghraib prison. However, none of the personnel would end up being prosecuted. Around the same time the company was in the process of being bought out by Lockhead Martin Corporation who terminated the merger agreement because the Department of Justice launched an investigation into claims they had violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). In June 2005, the Titan Corporation was acquired by L-3 Communications which allowed it continue to operate under that umbrella. In early 2007, all Titan Corporation and Group divisions were folded into L-3 Communications completely and anything Titan was discontinued.
