Vertx has over 175 years of experience but the company started out when a top federal agency requested more functional, comfortable and versatile low profile tactical pants. Back then, Vertx was just brothers known as the Fechheimer Brothers and they formed a company to manufacture the pants. Thus the Fechheimer Brothers Co and Vertx were born.
Today, we are going to look at the Vertx Gamut 2.0 EDC Bag. The Gamut is all about options and making sure you have them. The bag is 21”H x 14.5”W x 5.5”D, with a capacity of 25 litres and a weight of 4.2LBs. This size alone makes it a great EDC bag but does it have the space inside?
Yes it does. In fact the main compartment has a sleeve that can store a laptop or discreetly carry a PDW rifle. There is a “Tug the Hot-Pull Tab” that gives you immediate access to this area. Pretty neat for someone looking for a cool range bag. Inside along with the main compartment there are three mesh zipper pockets and convenient pen pockets. There are also other compartments in the Gamut, such as an admin pouch which is the perfect depth for smaller items and there are also lateral side pouches which can store gear such as water bottles.
There are several other features that are important to note such as:
- Weapon-compatible concealed carry platform with loop lining and a Rapid Access Pull tab
- Concealed carry platform accepts ballistic panels
- Convertible front flap stows behind loop-faced MOLLE webbing panel to provide ready access to items mounted there and to rapidly change the bag’s appearance
- Snaps on front flap zipper pulls prevent accidental opening and G-hook straps enable front flap to convert to a sling for larger items
- Main compartment has adjustable padded laptop sleeve, four gear slots, two abrasion-resistant zippered mesh pockets and strategically located loop panels for Tactigami™ and other hook and loop-compatible accessories
- Modular padded laptop sleeve in main compartment adjusts in size and position and adapts to become a print-proof protective scabbard for weapon or sensitive gear
- Zippered admin pocket with key lanyard near top of the bag
- Main compartment opens 180° to easily load and access gear
- Dual snaps on main compartment prevent it from opening more than desired and deter pilferage
- Hot-Pull Tab can be set up for quick access to the main compartment
- Zippered side compartments open toward the body for improved security and enable organization for your admin gear with total of two zippered mesh pockets and 7 drop-in pockets
- Stretch side pockets securely cinch water bottles or similarly-sized necessities
- 3-D molded foam back panel enhances airflow and comfort and has a pass-through for rolling luggage handles
- Multiple strategically-located and Tactigami™-compatible loop panels
- Adjustable shoulder straps with 1919 webbing and sternum straps
- Adjustable waist belt tucks away when not in use
- Hydration bladder compatible with dual hose pass-through ports
- Light-colored interior improves interior visibility
- Accommodate up to 15” laptop
So, the Gamut is well featured but how does it hold up? Well it’s constructed of bonded nylon thread throughout. There are also critical seams and attachment points bartacked for additional support and durability. I found the overall construction to be solid and it felt like it could withstand a beating. The zippers are YKK self-repairing nylon coil zippers all around which feel great and work every time.
Overall, I found this to be a rock solid EDC bag especially for someone looking for something at the range or while travelling. For anyone in security or LEO, this is a solid choice for a go bag. The design doesn’t look as pretty maybe, but this bag is extremely functional. 8/10.
