Lowa started out as a German company making premium outdoor boots and shoes in 1923. The company has stayed the course and been making some unbelievable products that are used by first responders, hikers, military personnel, search and rescue, and other professionals to do the job. They really do focus on creating comfortable yet mission specific boots and it shows.

The Jannu Mid Trekking boots were right with that mantra, comfortable right out of the box and yet designed to carry loads up to 50 pounds. Lowa does advertise these as requiring no break in period, which is nice if you are looking to get out there immediately. However, I will tell you that the more I wore them, the more they fit my foot and thus became even better.

From the moment you grab the pull tab on the back and slip these on you will find them comfortable as I’ve already said. The lacing is smoot hand easy to tight, with speed lacing featured at the top the boot. I like that the upper portion of the boot is made of leather/cordura, which will keep the boots warm on colder days and be more durable. Going further down, the midsole is designed to prevent over-pronation and supination, providing a comfortable footbed. The footbed also has a slow reacting foam, to help customize the footbed to your individual foot. Further down, the Vibram Trailtek sole provides great traction, but sheds mud better than other soles. The “C4” tongue and X-lacing are very comfortable. There is no uneven pressure on the instep. The tongue is also gusseted right up to the top of the upper. This really helps to prevent getting debris in the boot. The tongue also has a tab on it to keep it from slipping down. These do retail for about $200, which puts the mid pack for a good quality mid trekking boot. They are certainly not cheap, but you could do worse so with that said I don’t have an issue with the price. One thing that concerned me right away however, was the inner lining. It’s a perforated glove leather. With today’s high speed synthetic linings it made me wonder about comfort. I have yet to wear these boots in hot weather, but my feet sweat no matter what the temperature is. I have found that the leather lining is just as comfy as any of the synthetic linings. However, I’ve worn them on warmer days and much to my delight, I did not have issues. 8/10.
