The Extended Climate Warfighter Clothing System, or ECWCS Gen III, is protective clothing created by the US Army in the 1980s. It has been radically re-engineered since it’s inception but it is some of the warmest clothing available. Their ECWS Gen III PCU Level 6 Pant is constructed with two-layer GORE-TEX fabric. These pants are designed for use in moderate to cold and wed conditions as a hard shell layer.

The paints incorporate some cool features such as a light-weight material which is completely waterproof, windproof and breathable but at 50% less bulk than previous systems. It also incorporates Near infrared signature reduction or NIR technology to further enhance soldier survivability. Here are some of the feature highlights:

  • Constructed with 2-layer GORE-TEX® fabric based on GORE-TEX® Paclite© technology
  • Completely waterproof, windproof and breathable
  • Light-Weight 50% less bulk than previous systems
  • Pass through pockets
  • 3/4 leg side zippers
  • Elastic waist cord with adjustable barrel locks
  • Belt loops and provisions for suspenders
  • Lightweight, Easy to Pack
  • Multicam / Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern (OCP)
  • Genuine U.S. Military Issue
  • Made in the U.S.A.

The ECWCS Level 6 pant is designed to be worn over a uniform, specifically a combat uniform so they will have a baggier fit than the use GORETEX fit. The fit and finish is well done and there would be no issues with stitching. The nice part is these are pants that don’t cost what they feel like. You can find these on eBay for between $50-80. Not a bad deal! If you are looking for a pair of heavy duty pants, look no further! 9/10.
