5.11 Tactical has put out a lot of excellent gear and it has been in the forefront of the tactical gear world. For those not aware, 5.11 Tactical is a company that started out in Modesto, California in 1992, focusing on rock climbing gear, specifically plants. Since then, the company has dramatically increased their product line and has taken the tactical world by storm.

One of their newest backpacks is the AMP24 tactical backpack. Unlike many of the other 5.11 Tactical backpacks, the AMP24 backpack actually does not really scream “tactical” or militaristic. Instead it focuses on a more concealed and clean look but still has a ton of utility. After all, AMP stands for All Missions Pack (AMP) line which entirely focus on durability with a sleek look. The number after the AMP stands for the different sizes the backpack is offered in based on hours for the trip. The AMP24 is designed to get you 24 hours of gear and has a 32 liter capacity.

All AMP backpacks are built from water-resistant 500D Dobby Nylon for the main areas of the backpack and the bottom is made from 1050D Nylon material for more durability. It also features a water-resistant TAC-LAM high strength laminate for future protection. The main compartment has a full clamshell opening and it has Quad-Zip zippers that are less likely to fall than other zippers (pretty much durable). Color options are Tungsten (Grey), Black, and Kangaroo (Tan).

The most unique feature of the AMP backpack line up is the HEXGRID gear set panel which is a load bearing system much like MOLLE systems. They are cross compatible with MOLLE pouches and accessories and can be positioned in vertical, horizontal, or angled orientations. That is probably the coolest feature of the AMP backpacks as it really allows you to take your organization to the next level. As far as other storage, it has 4 side pockets and 1 bottom stash pocket. It also features a hydration or laptop rear compartment and an internal loop platform panel, with mesh org and admin pockets.

Now down to use, I find the AMP24 tactical backpack to be a serious EDC bag. This is the ideal backpack for EDC use in an urban setting that will easily feature all your gear you would need in a day. The back is discreet enough that you can not stand out with one of those serious tactical looking backpacks but still feature all the useful elements of organization wit the HEXGRID gear set panel. The AMP24 backpack is durable and doesn’t feel cheap, which is exactly what I would expect from a 5.11 Tactical product. In conclusion, this bag isn’t cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for and with the AMP24 backpack you get excellence. 9/10.
