There are a lot of new knives coming out that are made out of AUS-8a steel and it’s becoming more common. So what is it? Well it is pretty much the same as AUS-8. The biggest different between AUS-8a and AUS-8 is that AUS-8a has been heat-treated. AUS-8a is a stainless steel that has a low carbon content. This means it will resist rust well and it is very easy to sharpen. Apart from that, both AUS-8a and AUS-8 are made of the same metals, similar to that of the 440 line of steels. They are both manufactured by the Japanese and Chinese.

So is it a good steel? Yes. There are many perks to AUS-8 and AUS-8a steel, but what you’ll love most is how easy it is to sharpen this steel. They are durable, and properly cared will last you a long time.
